Appeal for Volunteers!

25 June 2018

An appeal to find volunteers willing to spare a few hours a week to help adult learners has been launched Realise Futures Learning and Development.

Realise Futures is specifically looking for volunteers in west Suffolk to help at its Bury St Edmunds learning centre in Bury St Edmunds library. But staff would also like to hear from people willing to consider helping at its other learning centres in Stowmarket, Ipswich, Lowestoft and Newmarket.

It is staging an open day on July 5th at Bury St Edmunds Library in St Andrew’s Street North, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and is inviting people to come along to find out more.

Deborah Gibson, Realise Futures Careers and Progression Manager said: “Our volunteers are a hugely valuable and valued resource, and we would like to build our volunteer team. We are looking for volunteers to help support learners. They will help people to read and scribe and, as more courses these days involve digital literacy, it would be good if they can use a computer.

“As well as people who may be retired, or those looking for work wanting to get involved in a learning environment, we would particularly like to hear from people aged 19+ who are thinking about teaching. If they want to get some experience to put on their CV around tutoring, training and mentoring, it’s an ideal stepping stone for anyone thinking about taking up a teaching career.

“We are happy for anyone interested to suggest how much time they can spare – from a few hours to a more regular weekly slot. They will certainly find they will get a lot of satisfaction out of helping others develop their skills,” she added.

Realise Futures runs 100+ Ofsted graded Good courses from its six learning centres - covering skills for work, maths and English, computers and technology, health and wellbeing and family learning for thousands of adults across Suffolk. All courses can be found at www.rflearn.co.uk. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 0300 456 2050 and leave their details.
