Community Environment Project: Building a Pond
Duration: 30 hours
Summary
This course will focus on the importance of water to wildlife and the importance of using water sustainably. Learners will learn why water is of such importance to both wildlife and how this in turn can benefit people. The main goal is to build a wildlife friendly pond at the Realise Futures allotment.
What will you do on this 7 week course?
- Research and identify why water is important to wildlife
- Discover what lives in a pond and why a balanced ecosystem can be beneficial to other allotment holders
- Discuss why conserving water is vital for the benefit of global ecosystems and how we can help minimise our own water usage
- Clear a suitable site ready for the planning and construction of a pond
- Decide on which plants to use to satisfy the species of fauna we can expect in the local area.
- Excavate the site, build, and plant up the pond
- Complete the project by beautifying the area surrounding the pond
- You will need to complete a small portfolio to evidence your progress and achievement.
- Some physical activity will be involved on the project.

- Enrol onto our Sow and Grow allotment course
- Apply to become a volunteer

- No prior requirements needed apart from a willingness to join in group discussion and activities
